Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds from Tower of Jewels are real, stunning diamonds that make for brilliant solitaires used in engagement rings, stud earrings, and custom jewelry. But unlike mined diamonds, lab grown diamonds do not require extraction via mining in caves, pits, or along the seafloor.

Matching the DNA and carbon composition of mined diamonds, lab grown diamonds are visually, physically, and chemically identical to those mined from the earth. Indeed, the only difference between a lab grown diamond and a mined diamond is how they are made. Lab-grown diamonds are conflict-free, thereby making them a socially responsible choice.

Stunning. Ethical. Tower of Jewels Lab Grown Diamonds Shine Like No Other

Tower of Jewels offers some of the most beautiful lab-grown diamond solitaires in the world. Lab grown diamonds are widely regarded as the more ethical, socially conscious alternative to mined diamonds.

How Diamonds Form in Nature

Diamonds form over billions of years, as carbon deposits beneath the surface of the earth are exposed to elevated pressure and extreme temperatures. This exposure causes the carbon atoms to bond together and crystallize, forming diamonds. Eventually, humans mine these diamonds in open pits, underground, or from the seabed.

Lab grown diamonds replicate these natural processes, without harming the environment, and without questionable labor practices. Instead, the diamonds are manufactured (grown) in a laboratory using one of two techniques. The first is called High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) and the second is called Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Each process is best suited for certain sizes, shapes, and colors of diamonds. Here is a brief explanation of both processes.

High Pressure – High Temperature

Lab grown diamonds made using the HPHT process recreate the natural process of exposing tiny “diamond seeds” to extremely high temperatures and extreme pressure. This process melts the seed, which is then cooled to form a carbon crystal also known as a diamond. The HPHT process is so effective, that mined diamonds may even go through the HPHT process to improve clarity and color.

Chemical Vapor Deposition

Using a tightly sealed chamber, a seed diamond is first heated and then exposed to a carbon-rich gas mixture. The mixture bonds to the seed diamond, effectively growing a diamond identical in composition, durability, and quality to those that form in nature over millions of years.
